Self-doubt
“One unflattering photo can ruin how I feel about myself.
A little room to breathe.
Self-doubt
“Je ne peints pas l’estre. Je peints le passage : non un passage d’aage en autre, ou, comme dict le peuple, de sept en sept ans, mais de jour en jour, de minute en minute.”
English translation
“I do not paint its being, I paint its passage; not a passing from one age to another, or, as the people say, from seven to seven years, but from day to day, from minute to minute.”
Michel de Montaigne — Essais, 1580–1595III.2English translation by Charles Cotton (W. Carew Hazlitt edition, 1877)Read the source ↗
A picture catches a moment.
A photograph freezes one angle under particular light, while your life keeps moving beyond the frame. It cannot capture the warmth of a conversation or how you make somebody feel; an image is limited evidence of a whole person.
ONE SMALL STEP
Put the photo away and remember one interaction in which you felt comfortably yourself.
